UNIVERSIDADE | YLIOPISTO é um projeto duracional de Rogério
Nuno Costa para a criação de uma universidade
virtual, trans-nacional e trans-artística. Uma escola para ensinar a anular
a arte através da Arte (ou vice-versa). Um laboratório de experiências Pop. Uma
masterclass intitulada "A preguiça como novo avant-garde". Um
workshop intensivo de Kopimismo. Um magazine cooltural. E um partido político
demagógico, finlandizado e profil(árctico) a financiar o empreendimento.

Copywrong
é uma experiência de criação que pretende contribuir para a clarificação das regras
de direito de autor nas artes performativas. Já na sua segunda edição, esta
masterclass é parte integrante do processo de co-criação de uma
performance-ferramenta educacional dirigida a artistas e criadores das artes
performativas, com estreia prevista para Maio de 2017. O programa envolve uma
sessão de partilha de experiências e discussão da temática, um workshop sobre
direito de autor e Creative Commons, e um primeiro laboratório para a construção
da performance final. O projecto conta com o apoio do Awesome Fund (Creative Commons), do futureplaces.org (Universidade
do Porto) e do Armazém 22.

O projeto propõe a construção de uma plataforma colaborativa
de pensamento interdisciplinar ao longo de 5 anos “letivos”, operando, virtual
e fisicamente, entre dois extremos da Europa: Portugal e Finlândia. Grupos de
trabalho fluidos (e nómadas) encontrar-se-ão em espaços temporários com o
objetivo de elaborar uma proposta híbrida de ensino artístico alicerçado em metodologias
“não-artísticas”: como chegar à Arte sem ser através da arte? Uma universidade meta-referencial que
oferece um só programa — o dos “estudos universitários” —, num diálogo
rizomático e taxonómico entre todas as Artes e todas as Ciências, e num sistema
discursivo não-hierárquico e pós-capitalista. Para tal, ensaiar-se-ão novos
paradigmas educacionais, experimentar-se-ão novos modos de subjetivação e de
partilha de conhecimento, antever-se-ão novos modelos éticos (logo, estéticos)
na relação “mestre/aprendiz”, reciclar-se-ão pressupostos que estiveram na
origem da missão universitária ocidental e que a (pós-)modernidade,
quantitativamente empreendedora e empresarial (ensino enquanto produto, aluno enquanto cliente), terá feito extinguir.
Após a realização de um proto-laboratório em Bucareste em
Julho de 2015, em colaboração com o projeto E-motional | rethinking dance, ODD
Gallery e Modulab, o Ano Um (2016/17)
arrancou oficialmente em Outubro de 2016 na School of Arts Design and
Architecture da Aalto University (Helsínquia), num diálogo simbiótico com o
programa Visual Culture and Contemporary Art (ViCCA). Até Junho de 2017,
realizar-se-á uma série de lectures, workshops, think tanks e publicações
alusivas à PETABYTE AGE, temática estruturante para o Ano Um.

UNIVERSITY | YLIOPISTO is a durational meta-project for a
virtual, trans-national and trans-artistic multiversity.
A school where we can learn how to annul Art by the means of art itself. A
laboratory to test Pop as the ultimate cultural appropriation. A masterclass
titled "Laziness as the new avantgarde". An intensive workshop about
Kopimism. A cooltural magazine. And a very demagogic, finlandized and
prophyl(arctic) political party.

A
creation experience to clarify the dos and don’ts of copyright rules and how
to turn don’ts in dos. The workshop is part of a
co-creation process towards the lecture-performance and the virtual
installation, which aim to be an educational tool for artists who are
constantly dealing, simply ignoring or cleverly overcoming issues of copyright.
The idea is to bring in the artists’ own experiences (good or bad), discuss
them and produce a short performance in the end. The whole experience will also
be filmed and distributed online under CC license, a
final event to premiere in May 2017. The project is funded by Creative Commons
(Awesome Fund) and supported by futureplaces.org (Universidade
do Porto) and Armazém 22.

“(...) in a very literal
sense, Kantian university is a fictional institution. Reason can only be
institutionalized as far as institution itself can remain a fiction, if it can
only work ‘as if’ it was not an institution. When the institution becomes real,
reason turns away.” [Bill Readings, The University In Ruins, Harvard, p. 68]
The project proposes the building of a collaborative
platform for inter-disciplinary thinking throughout 5 “school” years, thus
operating, both virtually and physically, between two European “extremes”:
Portugal and Finland. Fluid and nomadic work groups will meet in temporary
spaces driven by one major goal: to elaborate a hybrid model for artistic
learning based on “non-artistic” methodologies, or how can one reach Art
without being through art? A
self-referential academy that offers
one program only — the “academic studies” program —, structured in a rhyzomatic
and taxonomical dialogue between all Arts and all Sciences, within a discursive
system that is non-hierarchical and post-capitalist. For that purpose, new
educational paradigms will be tested, new modes of subjectivation and share of
knowledge will be experimented, new ethical (therefore, aesthetic) models for
the relation “master/apprentice” will be foreseen. Ultimately, some of the
premises that originated the mission behind Western university will be
recycled, those same premises that (post-) modernity, quantitatively entrepeneur and business-oriented (education as a product, student as a client),
has been extinguishing for the last two decades.
After the proto-laboratory that took place in Bucharest
(Romania) in July 2015, in a partnership with E-motional | rethinking dance,
ODD Gallery and Modulab, the Year One
(2016/17) was officially launched in October at Aalto University’s School
of Art, Design and Architecture (Helsinki, Finland), in a symbiotic dialogue
with Visual Culture and Contemporary Art (ViCCA) program. Until June 2017, a
series of lectures, workshops, think tanks and publications will be launched,
all around the subject of PETABYTE AGE, the structuring core-theme for Year One.

Rogério Nuno Costa é artista, investigador, professor,
curador e escritor em vários projectos coolturais e pós-artísticos, formalmente
americanos, conceptualmente europeus, religiosamente Kopimistas,
filosoficamente Piratas e literariamente re-re-realistas (ou realistas gagos).
Com formação académica na área da Comunicação, considera-se um observador
(participante) com uma curiosidade mórbida pela arte que se parece mesmo com
Arte, só devolvendo o resultado das suas investigações porque é o que manda o
Código Deontológico dos Jornalistas. Na persona do Chef Rø, tem elaborado
inúmeros cruzamentos da Cozinha Conceptual™ com as artes performativas e os
novos media, pretendendo com isso que a Arte se eleve à categoria de
Gastronomia (o contrário já foi feito). Não é actor; considera que todos os
trabalhos de teatro/performance que realizou em colaboração com diversos
artistas e companhias foram trabalhos de consultoria. Trabalha atualmente na
construção (from scratch) de uma “Universidade”.
Rogério Nuno Costa is an artist, researcher, teacher, curator
and writer, working in many cool'tural and post-artistic projects that are
formally American, conceptually European, religiously Kopimist, philosophically
Pirate and literarily re-re-realist (or stutterer-realist). With an academic
background in Communication, considers himself a (participant) observer with a
morbid curiosity towards that art that really looks like Art; and he only
delivers the results of his investigations because it is what the Code of
Ethics for Journalists demands. Under the alias Chef Rø, he has been
fabricating countless cross-disciplinary experiments with the so-called Conceptual
Cooking™, the performing arts e the new media, aiming that one day Art will be
considered a Gastronomy (the other way around has already been done...). He is
not an actor; all theatre/performance works he has been engaging in were
actually art consultancy collaborations. Currently, he is undertaking the
building (from scratch) of a “University”.
